Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is asking the Justice Department to determine if barring men from competing in the Miss America, Miss USA and other beauty pageants is discriminatory and harms women.

“It’s time to give men their due,” said the Bronx Democrat. “Why are women the only gender seen as paragons of beauty in the U.S.?”

Ocasio-Cortez said she want the Justice Department to determine if it has jurisdiction to sue beauty pageants to require them to accept male contestants, helping to end discrimination and increase gender equality for both males and females.

I don’t think the male contestants should have to wear heels, but definitely bathing suits are OK for many men who work out and are in good shape,” said the House member, speaking at a rally for women’s rights.
